So, as the cost of hot pasties increases by 20%, I have been thinking about pasties I have enjoyed eating. Here's one..
Taxation of hot food is an interesting issue. Purchasing a hot pasty contributes 3 separate lots of tax; firstly when it's cooked, as the fuel to cook it is subject to tax; then when it's warmed up, again using fuel that is taxed; and finally, another tax when it's sold. Whilst the shop that sells is has to pay another lot of tax on its profits, and the shop assistant who takes your money pays it out of his wages. It all adds up to a lot of tax!
The government needs you to pay your taxes to help with the cost of running the country. Now that unemployment is rising and less income tax is paid, they need to find it from somewhere. So keep eating the pasties, folks, and while you're at it, go to your local and buy a pint of beer. After the Government prediction of fuel shortages sent sales of petrol sky-high, can we achieve the same effect by predicting a beer shortage?
